This question, this word, used to be the bane of my existence. It would hover over me as a cloud of doubt that people did not believe in my thoughts, my abilities, my drive, my vision... more importantly, me. But, what I have learned is that why is the most important question in the world. It serves as the gatekeeper for curiosity, expansion and creativity. It epitomizes wonder, and more importantly living. It ultimately gives us the gift of growth. So, this leads me into the question you are probably asking... what is Connections Media and why are you doing this thing? Why is it important? Why, at 44 years old, would I want to leave my life, friends, home, and family for 5 years to live like a vagabond, to listen to people.
Well, this is what it boils down to... I believe in humanity, and specifically humans. I believe in their inherent goodness. I believe in their ability to change and elevate their own lives, their neighborhoods, their cities, their states, their countries, and ultimately their world. I want to hear what makes them tick. I want to see their eyes dance. I want to be quiet and hold a space for them to be unapologetically themselves. I want, for a moment, to experience, with no judgement, what it feels like to be in their shoes. I want to connect. I want to go on that ride. And, I believe, most people are yearning for the exact same thing. We are more alike than different. And more and more, I believe we are looking for ways, places, and people who will allow us to get out of our boxes and be willing to drop the walls.
So, what started as a ‘me’ believing in this life philosophy, thankfully is now a ‘we.’ A road crew of four dedicated women ranging in age from 21-44 are traveling the world to hold space for people to talk. A volunteer crew of students, creatives, and professionals add their input along the way with their resources, skills, voices, money, time, and talents to keep the train moving. And present it to you through film, music, art, literature, experiences, and outreach. We reflect and reveal the essence of a community through intimate portraits of the people living within. We take time to engage one-on-one, in person. Started in January 2018, and continuing through December 2022, we are committing to traveling and living in 17 regions around the world, on an anthropological/social study of humans. Our intent is to inspire people to listen, to see others, and to elevate their home communities.

This is our why...
We are People Who Love People. Who Listen To People.
We are a media company focused on the heart of a community and what truly makes it turn - at its very core.
Conscious Connections is a filmed, documentary-style interview series. In each episode, we allow our subject to lead the conversation in whatever direction they wish, with the freedom and security to get real. At the end of each interview, our subject suggests the next person for us to interview, creating a path of connections that we trace throughout the episodes. At the end of the journey, a local songwriter and a local artist will create a song and specialty art piece unique to each season.
Each edition of the Connections book focuses on the people of a different region. We interview 10 individuals from the area, allowing them to lead the conversation in whatever direction they wish, with the freedom and security to get real. Each one chooses the next person for us to meet, and we follow these chains of connections. The end result is a coffee table book filled with portraits and quotes of 50-100 individuals in the region.
Songwriters Connected consists of: a series of filmed performances as well as a music live event in each region.
Songwriters Connected offers a wide scope of a city’s music scene through short daily videos.
We film regional songwriters as they perform a song live, and we post the lyrics along with the video.
We are proud to present, in conjunction with This is Noteworthy, pro-bono mentoring workshops teaching students interview, film, and conscious living techniques. Students will learn how to interact and interview with intentionality and presence and how to use film equipment. Connecting will allow students to celebrate themselves and each other through the arts. Through film and interviews, participants will highlight the importance of human interactions and conscious living.
